Do your customers like QR menus? What the surveys say
Short answer: many do, but not everyone. In a 2023 William Blair poll, 45% of consumers were not comfortable using QR codes to view menus, order and pay, rising to 65% among people over 60. The fix is to offer the QR and keep a paper menu on hand.
What the surveys say
- William Blair (2023): 45% are not comfortable using QR codes for menus, orders and payment; 65% of people over 60.
- National Restaurant Association (2023): 73% of Gen Z adults are interested in using QR codes for menus, versus 46% of baby boomers.
How to use a QR without losing anyone
- Keep one or two paper menus for anyone who asks.
- Make sure the QR opens fast without downloading any app.
- Big text, photos and clear prices: readable without glasses.
- Let customers pay the usual way: ATH Móvil, card or cash.
- A sign that says "Scan to see the menu with photos" helps people who have never used one.
